Sahara-Level Sand Dunes, Mediterranean-Blue Water: Welcome to Michigan

Empire and the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore are well-known treasures to those of us who have the pleasure of living or vacationing in northern Michigan. But, it seems as though the rest of the country is catching on. Check out The New York Times recent article, "Sahara-Level Sand Dunes, Mediterranean-Blue Water: Welcome to Michigan"

"on a sunny summer day, the area looks more like the Mediterranean than modest Michigan. If you get there between the Fourth of July and late August, in a stretch where it’s 90 degrees, and you’re standing on a white sand beach — you’d be hard-pressed to tell me where you were, if you didn’t know”
